Do you know that GHMC has been collecting 8% of property tax as library cess, which totals to 175 crores per a financial year approximately?
Do you find any library in your vicinity at Hyderabad?
I haven’t found any nearby my location, Banjara Hills.
Leaving this apart, see the current condition of the existing libraries in GHMC.
1. Students have to sit outside, because of space constraints.

2. The toilets are in very bad condition, despite lot of advertisements by GHMC about Swachch Hyderabad.

3. This is a mobile library!!

4. Pathetic infrastructure

The GHMC suppose to pay the cess amount to the City Grandhalaya Samstha, which has been maintaining over 90 libraries in the civic body limits and has been receiving the amount for several years.
As you see above, several libraries in the city are in a dilapidated condition with the lack of facilities and most of them have been shut down due to lack of funds.
Seeing all these, a young Loksatta party member, Narasimha Donthineni, filed a PIL on this.

Government of Telangana and GHMC reacted to the PIL and said the appropriate actions would be taken.
It’s been a year ago, since all these happened. Still, no improvement has been observed.
However, GHMC official now says that the corporation would shift its focus on digital libraries.
@Dear GHMC, awake, no more words and take the action immediately.
We want our libraries!!
